The core feature of the Split-X Desk is the leg pattern, which uses mild steel frames to securely hold a ‘tenon’ crossbar. The desk’s crossbar not only reinforces the strucutre, but is designed at a comfortable height as a kick -bar for your feet. Our team built the prototype shown from Sugar Maple and mild steel. Chloe finished the maple with Danish Oil and polyurethane which leave a glossy, hard finish. You will find this the perfect, durable finish for work and it will last for years. This example has breadboard ends; those are the panels across the end, like an old farm table. This is mostly decorative in this case because the table is reinforced from below by the steel frame. Ordinarily, breadboards make the table stronger and prevent warping. We can make this table with or without the breadboard, just send us an email! We can also make a variety of thicknesses. The prototype in the photo is 22mm, but we would suggest at least 25mm or 30mm for extra durability and lifetime.
